FAQ’s

Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

How does the misting system work?
Our system consists of a reservoir, a control unit and a pump that are stationed in a shed or another designated outdoor area. A timer triggers the system to pump the mixture through the installed line, which releases a fine mist through a series of stainless steel nozzles. The system is fully automated to mist multiple times per day at 15 – 60 second intervals. The mosquito mist system also includes a remote control that allows the user to mist between regularly timed intervals plus a battery back-up system that keeps the timer correct in the event of a power outage. The system can be set to mist up to 24 times a day, but usually 2-4 times per day will control your yard. You also have “on-demand” control, via a small remote that you can use at any time to start, stop or skip a misting cycle. (An Android and iPhone app is also available with internet access.)
How much does the system cost?

Because each application is unique, Mist Guardian offers a free evaluation and estimate. A specialist will customize your system and thoroughly review the installation and operation of your system.

Is it safe for children and pets?

Yes, our misting concentrates used are safe when used as directed. Our recommended pyrethrum insecticides are derived from natural chrysanthemum flowers and are considered to be very low in toxicity. Pyrethrums have been used in agricultural and equine applications for a quarter century with no known harmful effects. No other insecticide can claim such a long record of proven safety towards humans and warm-blooded animals. Also, during each spray cycle, agitation takes place resulting in a constant fluid turnover, eliminating solution separation and keeping the water to solution ratio consistent.

What is Pyrethrum?

Pyrethrum is the botanical insecticide derived from the dried flowers of Chrysanthemum Cineraria folium. The active plant oil is found mostly in microscopic oil glands around the seed casing in the flower head and is made up of a combination of six chemical esters known as pyrethrins. The physiological action of pyrethrins is to both inhibit the mosquitoes from biting as well as cause repellency, immobilization, paralysis and death.

When should I expect to see results?

A lot of people are amazed by the difference immediately, but you will see a remarkable difference within the first 2-3 days. After the first couple of weeks, you will be astonished by the effects.

Where are the misting nozzles located?

The nozzles can be placed virtually out-of-sight. We will design a custom solution to fit the needs of any landscape using your fence line, the back of your house and other landscaping features in your outdoor area. The nozzles are spaced approximately 10 feet apart.

Who can benefit from a Mist Guardian System?

Any home or business owner concerned about biting insects can benefit from our system. Mosquito misting systems are typically used around homes, pools and hot tubs, patios, decks, recreation areas, outdoor restaurants, entertainment facilities, farms and stables.

Will the system kill other insects?

The misting concentrate can kill other insects depending on the mix ratio that is used and how it is applied. Our system is setup specifically for mosquitoes, and we use a highly diluted misting solution that is normally scheduled to spray at the times when the mosquitoes come out most. If you would like your system to help control other pests, we can work with you to customize your solution.
